Özet

The main reason of fatal prognosis in carcinoma of the pancreas is the recognition of the disease in advanced stages. Determination of the population at risk and careful evaluation of the findings in this group may help the diagnosis to be made earlier. In our study, some of the demographic features, symptoms and the findings of 117 subjects with carcinoma of pancreas were evaluated. Mean age of the patients were 62 (10 years and male/female ratio was 2.4. It was interesting to find hyperglycemia in 42% of the patients in laboratory tests. There were no patients at stage I in whom surgery is the curative procedure. Most of the patients were at stages III and IV in whom only palliative treatment could be performed. The new onset of diabetes or hyperglycemia, weight loss and unexplained upper gastrointestinal complaints in male subjects between 60-80 year old, suggest more careful evaluation from the point of carcinoma of pancreas depending on our results.
