Özet:

This study investigates the biomimicry awareness of university students enrolled in sports education programs at a higher education institution, using a mixed methods design that combines quantitative and qualitative approaches. The study involved 308 sports science students studying at the Faculty of Sports Sciences, Bozok University, Yozgat, Turkey. Quantitative results indicate a moderate overall level of biomimicry awareness. Furthermore, students in the Sports Management department, those with higher socioeconomic status, and students participating in outdoor sports showed higher levels of biomimicry awareness. Qualitative findings reveal that students primarily associate biomimicry with the anatomical and biomechanical characteristics of animals (such as shark, cheetah, claw, bat, spine, spider web); they link these features to strength, efficiency, and durability in sports products and facilities. These patterns indicate functional comprehension of biomimicry in sports contexts but highlight gaps in deeper conceptualization, underscoring the need for targeted curriculum integration to enhance interdisciplinary thinking, environmental consciousness, and innovation capacity among future sports professionals.
