Özet
This study employed an embedded mixed methods approach to evaluate changes in climate literacy and activism among 60 young adults (18–22 years old). The 30 participants in the experimental group took part in a 7-session climate awareness intervention, while the 30 in the control group received no intervention. Quantitative results showed the experimental group had statistically significant increases in total and subscale scores on the Climate Literacy Scale, while the control group showed no significant change. Qualitative analysis of the sessions identified key themes such as increased knowledge, awareness, consciousness development, and activism. Follow-up interviews at 3- and 6-months explored participants’ continued climate activism, revealing sustained activism and involvement in political/social actions. The findings suggest that climate-awareness group interventions effectively enhance young individuals’ climate literacy and support participation in climate activism. This approach appears valuable for empowering youth to address the climate crisis through individual and collective action.
