Özet

As the world gets smaller and smaller every day by the effect of globalization, the need for translators and interpreters has also gone up. In order to meet the needs of this important field, translation courses were launched into the English Language and Teaching curriculum.

This current study has been designed to find out students’ attitudes towards translation courses given in the English Language Learning Department of one of the most prestigious State universities in Turkey. 65 undergraduate prospective English Language teachers participated in the study and they were asked to answer 15 open-ended questions about their experience in translation classes. In order to understand their attitude towards the translation classes, they were asked to answer sincerely. The results show that there are different views towards the translation courses however the general view indicates that although not everybody enjoys the classes, almost all believe that this course is a must in order to fully perform their future profession. This paper not only shed a light on the translation courses on the ELT curriculum but also provides a new understanding of translation education by incorporating students’ voice into the field. It is important that the study is analyzed by the program managers and other stakeholders for the betterment of the program.
