Background: Perioperative nurses play a critical role in patient safety and quality of care, making the reliable and valid assessment of their perceived competence essential. This study aimed to examine the psychometric validity and reliability of the Turkish adaptation of the “Perceived Perioperative Competence Scale - Revised - Short Form (PPCS-R-SF)”, which is designed to assess surgical and operating room (OR) nurses’ competence. Methods: This is a cross-sectional methodological study. This methodological study was conducted with the data obtained from 220 nurses working in OR units of a tertiary hospital located in Central Anatolia and Northeastern Türkiye, selected by purposive sampling method between November 2023 and July 2024. Item Content Validity Index (I-CVI) was obtained as 0.83 and Scale Content Validity Index (S-CVI) as 0.94. Results: The participants’ median age was 31 (22–59) years, 59.1% were married, 72.3% were female, and 57.3% were undergraduate graduates. Exploratory Factor Analysis identified a three-dimensional factor structure with an eigenvalue above 1 and a cumulative variance contribution rate of 61.193%, and 18 items from the scale were included in the analysis. Cultural overlap between certain competence domains led to the emergence of a more parsimonious three-factor structure. The fit indices for the scale were determined as χ2/df = 2.538, Root Mean Square Error of Approximation = 0.087 and Comparative Fit Index = 0.900. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.913. Conclusions: It was shown that the Turkish version of the PPCS-R-SF is a valid and reliable measurement tool and can be used to assess the competence levels of perioperative nurses.
