ENDODONTIC TREATMENT OF PREMOLARS WITH DIFFERENT ANATOMICAL VARIATIONS:

CASE REPORT

Farid Fattahi, Tarık Ahmet, Murat Ünal

Selçuk University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Endodontics, Konya, Turkey

Aim: The purpose of root canal treatment is to clean the pulp cavity mechanically and chemically, and to seal

it hermetically in three dimensions with a sealer. In this case report, endodontic treatments of premolar teeth

with different number of root canal variations are presented.

Case 1: A 39-year-old male patient applied to the Endodontics department of the Faculty of Dentistry of Selcuk University with a complaint of spontaneous pain. As a result of clinical and radiographic examination, it

was determined that the patient had severe pain in tooth number 45 that started spontaneously and did not

pass despite the use of analgesics. On radiological examination, it was noticed that the anatomy of the canal

is different and has 3 root canals. Root canal treatment was planned under magnification using an operating

microscope. The patient was informed about the treatment planning and an informed consent form was obta-

ined. Canal treatment was completed in multiple sessions.

Case 2: A 36-year-old male patient applied to the department of oral diagnosis and radiology of the Faculty

of Dentistry of Selcuk University for a general dental examination. During the examination, it was determined

that there was severe pain in tooth number 24 that started spontaneously. On the received panoramic and

periapical X-rays, it was noticed that the anatomy of the canal is different and has 3 root canals . The patient

was referred to the Department of Endodontics with the indication of root canal treatment. In the patient who

accepted the treatment planning, canal treatment was completed under the Operating Microscope in multiple

sessions.

Results: The patiens had no clinical symptoms or pain at the controls.

Conclusion: In this case report, successful endodontic treatment of teeth with different anatomical structures

is presented. Augmentation devices are useful in order to successfully perform root canal treatment in lower

and upper premolar teeth, which may have complex root canal anatomy. More clinical studies are needed on

this subject.
