Özet

Turkish people have a long history of using local herbs in their medicinal and palliative care (PC) systems. They have a habit of using these herbs in addition to the prescribed medicines. PC is an alternative special medical care system for all types of patients including cancer patients with a serious illness, sufferings, and distress to improve the human immune system, provide comfort, and contribute to improved quality of life. PC provides an extra layer of reliable personal support with relief and prevention from diseases. Turkey lies at the intersection of Europe–Siberia, Iran–Turan, and the Mediterranean ecogeographic regions with more than 12,000 plant taxa. The paper shares popular knowledge about the tradition of using medicinal herbs and their uses in folk medicinal and PC systems. The information will form a base for future studies. Moreover, the multiplication of medicinal herbs through in vitro and ex vitro techniques is desired.
