International Conference on Poetry Studies: "Poetry Between Creation and Interpretation", London, England, 25 - 26 March 2023, pp.19
The poetry reader is a kind of pilgrim who sets out on the
road, who is at the beginning of a journey of initiation. Reading poetry is an
adventure of renewal, a creative act, a perpetual beginning, a rebirth of the miracle,
particularly when it envisages sacred matters. This paper investigates the 17th
century-religious lyric of John Donne and George Herbert in order to
demonstrate the type of art portrays spiritual depths that underpin their
poetics. The religious aesthetics stands out among other types of lyric
artistry.
