Abstract

During the Cold War period of the Euro-Atlantic region, the privilege of NATO under the US dominance in defense and security prevented Europe from establishing an autonomous defense system. Post-Cold War formation of OGSP with the St. Malo Summit was the beginning of the change. The CSDP's taking steps that are now questioning and considering its own interests have caused conflicts from time to time with NATO. Although a series of agreements and summits were held to overcome the conflicts, America, which does not want to lose its effectiveness in NATO, did not give the expected opportunity for an autonomous defense of the EU. The UK's departure from the EU with BREXIT and the US's interest in the Indo-Pacific region with the AUKUS agreement decreased trust in NATO. As a result of these, Europe lost its two most important military and economic powers. It is left out in the global security configuration. While this article deals with NATO-EU relations, it examines the position of the EU in the new world order shaped by AUKUS.
