A 35 year-old man presented with a trauma history that caused difficulty in performing left shoulder movements for 2 months. Although he did not have pain in his left shoulder, he noticed weakness of flexion and abduction, and muscle atrophy. Magnetic resonance imaging showed no left rotator cuff tear. However, electromyographic examination pointed out an isolated suprascapular nerve injury. Suprascapular nerve injury is an uncommon pathology that can cause shoulder dysfunction and it should be included in the differential diagnosis of the shoulder complaints. Electrodiagnostic examination is essential especially in young patients with shoulder pain, weakness or atrophy.
