Abstract
Enhanced Recovery After Cesarean (ERAC) protocols, which aim to optimize maternal recovery,
constitute an evidence-based, multidisciplinary management model that minimizes surgical stress and
accelerates functional recovery. Developed against the morbidity risks posed by the increasing rates of
cesarean sections globally and in Turkey, these protocols encompass strategic interventions such as
short-term preoperative fasting and carbohydrate loading, regional anesthesia with active warming
during the operation, and early mobilization along with the initiation of nutrition within the first two
hours postpartum. Literature data reveal that this holistic approach reduces surgical complications by 30-50%, shortens the length of hospital stay, and strengthens mother-infant bonding. Midwives, who
take part in all stages from the mother's initial admission to discharge with their roles as coordinators,
educators, and autonomous caregivers, hold a key responsibility in integrating the protocol into clinical
routines and improving maternal health. Accordingly, this text presents the effectiveness of accelerated
recovery protocols in improving maternal health outcomes during cesarean sections from an evidencebased perspective in light of literature data.
