Aim: This study aims to examine the effects of different irrigation solutions and sterilization procedures on the
surface properties of ProTaper Next and Reciproc Blue files.
Materials and Methods: A total of 30 PTX and 30 RB files were used for the study. Both of these files were
divided into 5 groups of 6 new files. Although new files would be used in the study, the files were examined
under a stereomicroscope to determine the deformation that may occur during the production phase.
Group1: CONTROL;No treatment applied
Group2: 5.25% NAOCI;dynamically Dipped for 5 minutes
Group3: 18% ETIDRONIC ACID;dynamically Dipped for 5 minutes
Group4: BioAKT;dynamically Dipped for 5 minutes
Group5: STERILIZATION;Autoclaved 5 times
Images of all files placed in the AFM device were obtained from the 5μmX5μm area with a scanning speed of
1.0 Hz and a resolution of 256 pixels. Scanning was performed using silicon nitride tips suitable for tapping
mode, from 5 different points on each sample. In the examinations to be made with AFM, the mean roughness
was calculated with the XEI analysis program. Three-dimensional analysis images, Depth and RMS data were
acquired for numerical comparison. Data were analyzed by Kolmogorov-Smirnov, one-way ANOVA and posthoc LSD tests.
Results:There was a statistical difference between the mean RMS values of groups belonging to ProTaper Next
and Reciproc Blue files (p<0.05). All groups increased the surface roughness compared to the control group.
Conclusion: NaOCI, Etidronic acid, BioAKT and sterilization increased the surface roughness of PTX and RB
files. RMS and DEPTH values were compatible with each other between groups. Among all groups, the groups
that increased the RMS and Depth values the most compared to the control group were the Etidronic acid
group and the sterilization group.
