Özet

BACKGROUND: Today, use of digital devices such as smartphone, computer, tablet, game console, etc. among children is increasingly. This study was aimed adapting the Digital Addiction Scale for Children (DASC) into Turkish and evaluating its psychometric properties.
METHODS: This methodological study was conducted with 884 9- to 13-year-old students in May 2020. Language and Turkish consistency, item analyses, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and model fit indices were performed using the IBM SPSS and AMOS programs to test the validity and reliability of the scale.
RESULTS: The DASC’s reliability and internal consistency were sufficient. The correlation between the subscales was not high (0.436-0.706), and the presence of discriminant validity between them was determined. In the CFA analysis conducted to determine the Turkish compatibility of the nine subscales of the DASC Scale, and when the items 20 and 23 with low correlation coefficients were removed, χ2/df =3.784, P<0.001, RMSEA (0.056), CFI (0.949), TLI (0.931), and other fit index values of the model were regarded to be at an acceptable level. After 2 items were removed from the scale, Turkish compatibility was found to be appropriate.
CONCLUSIONS: The Turkish version of the DASC was determined as a valid and reliable tool that measures digital device addiction in children aged 9 to 13 years.
