Sağlık konusu tıbbın konusu gibi görünse de sosyal bilimlerin de incelediği konular arasında yer almaktadır. Çünkü sağlık; toplumsal ve bireysel hayatın en önemli olgusudur. Bu araştırmanın amacı, sosyal bilgiler ders kitaplarında sağlık ile ilgili içeriklere yer verilme durumunun incelenerek tespit edilmesidir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda, 2019- 2020 eğitim-öğretim yılında kullanılan 4, 5, 6, ve 7. sınıf sosyal bilgiler ders kitapları ve öğretim programı veri kaynağı olarak kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde doküman ve betimsel analiz yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Ders kitaplarında sağlık ile ilgili içerik ve temalar belirlenerek, öğrenme alanlarına göre analiz edilerek tablolar halinde düzenlenmiştir. Sonuç olarak her sınıf düzeyinde sağlık ile ilgili içeriklere rastlanmıştır fakat konuların öğrenme alanları ve sınıf düzeylerine göre eşit dağılmadığı, özellikle 7. sınıf düzeyinde daha az yer verildiği görülmüştür. Bu durum özellikle günümüzde yaşanan sağlık sorunları ve Covid-19 pandemi süreci de göz önünde bulundurularak, toplumsal hayata hazırlayan bir ders olma özelliği ile sosyal bilgilerde sağlık ile ilgili içerik ve konuların daha fazla yer verilme durumunun gerekliliğini ortaya çıkartmaktadır.
Health is primarily the subject of medicine, nevertheless it is also studied by other disciplines including inter alia social sciences. As a reason, health is the most important phenomenon of both individual and social life. Accordingly, the objective of this study is to investigate and assess the healthrelated content in social studies textbooks. In line with the objective of the study, social studies textbooks published by Ministry of National Education of Republic of Turkey to be taught in the 4th grade of elementary schools and in the 5th, 6th and 7th grades of the middle schools as well as the respective social studies curricula used in the 2019-2020 academic year were used as the data source. Documentary and descriptive analyses were used in the analysis of the research data. Health-related content and themes in the textbooks were determined, analyzed according to learning fields (theme) and arranged in tables. In conclusion, it was determined that health-related content is included in the teaching materials of all four grade levels analyzed within the scope of this study. It was also determined however that the health-related content was not evenly distributed according to learning fields and grade levels, and that there was less health-related content in teaching materials of 7th grade compared to other grade levels. These findings indicate that it is necessary to include more health-related content in social studies courses, taking into consideration that social studies course aim to prepare the students for social life and given the health problems experienced today and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic process
