21. yüzyılda üniversiteler; bilginin öğretildiği ve paylaşıldığı yerler olmanın ötesinde tüm kullanıcıların eğitsel, sosyal, kültürel, sportif ve rekreasyonel faaliyetlere katılma imkânı bulduğu ve topluma katkı sağlayacak profesyonellerin yetiştirildiği mekânlar olarak görülmektedir. Kullanıcıların üniversitelerin olanaklarından yararlanabilmesi ürün, mekân, yapı ve hizmetlerin herkese uygun ve kapsayıcı düzenlemelere vurgu yapan evrensel tasarım ilkeleri ile tasarlanmasını gerektirmektedir. Türkiye’de evrensel tasarım ve erişilebilirlik kapsamında akademik çalışmalar yapılmakla birlikte, konunun genellikle engelli kullanıcı üzerinden okunduğu, uygulamada henüz istenilen düzeye ulaşılamadığı görülmektedir. Üniversite eğitiminin meslek edinme, çalışma ve sosyal yaşama katılımda önemi, üniversitelerde yapıların, eğitim programları ve materyalinin herkese uygun biçimde tasarlanmasının gerekliliğine karşın mekânsal, eğitsel ve dijital erişilebilirliğin henüz istenilen yeterlikte olmaması ve dezavantajlı grupların yüksek öğretim kurumlarına yerleşme oranının düşük olması çalışma konusunun seçiminde belirleyici olmuştur. Bu çalışma evrensel tasarım ve erişilebilirlik kapsamında konuya mekânsal, eğitsel ve dijital Erişilebilirliğe yönelik literatür araştırmayı ve Türkiye’de üniversitelerde gerçekleştirilen uygulamaları örneklemeyi amaçlamaktadır.

In the 21st century, universities are seen not only as places where knowledge is taught and shared but also as environments where all users have the opportunity to participate in educational, social, cultural, sports, and recreational activities, and where professionals who contribute to society are trained. Ensuring that users can benefit from university facilities requires that products, spaces, buildings, and services be designed in accordance with the principles of universal design, which emphasize suitability and inclusiveness for everyone. Although academic studies have been conducted in Turkey within the scope of universal design and accessibility, it is observed that the subject is often approached mainly through the perspective of users with disabilities, and the desired level of implementation has not yet been achieved. The importance of university education in gaining a profession, participating in working life, and engaging in social life highlights the necessity of designing university buildings, educational programs, and materials to be suitable for everyone. However, the insufficient level of spatial, educational, and digital accessibility, as well as the low enrolment rate of disadvantaged groups in higher education institutions, were decisive factors in the selection of this research topic. This study aims to explore the concepts of universal design and accessibility through a review of the literature on spatial, educational, and digital accessibility, and to present examples of practices implemented at universities in Turkey.
