The social studies course has a very important role in terms of providing the individual with the necessary knowledge and skills in the process of adaptation to society. For this reason, the practices related to the course should be constantly reviewed and the quality of teaching should be improved by eliminating the problems experienced. The purpose of this study is to conduct a meta-thematic analysis of qualitative studies on the problems in social studies teaching in Türkiye, to reach more detailed and comprehensive results. In accordance with this purpose, academic studies on the problems in social studies teaching between 2005 and 2023 in the Council of Higher Education thesis center and national databases were examined. As a result of the search, 53 academic studies were reached. Excluding 35 of these studies, 8 articles and 10 theses were considered as the material of the study. The data collected based on document analysis in meta-thematic analysis type were analyzed using content analysis. As a result of the meta-thematic analysis conducted within the scope of the research, the problems experienced in social studies teaching were grouped under seven themes. The themes related to the problems and their causes are; student-related problems, teacher-related problems, problems arising from the curriculum, problems arising from the methods and techniques used, problems arising from the lack of materials, problems arising from parents and other problems. In order to solve the problems experienced in social studies teaching, solution suggestions for all parts of the education system (teachers, students, parents, school administration etc.) were presented.
