Abstract

While analyzing the processes of constructing the female selves, I will address the feminist theories and psychoanalysis that can be associated with the vision of Carol Shields and Alice Munro, supported by the theoretical works of Lacan, Chodorow and Butler. Gender identity cannot be seen entirely culturally, linguistically and politically constructed, but also inevitably personal. Indeed, people avail themselves of cultural meanings, but they experience them emotionally and through fantasy, as well as in particular interpersonal contexts.
