Özet

The main objective of this research is to examine the daily life practices of elderly individuals with chronic illnesses in depth, in order to understand their quality of life and life experiences. The research question is: ‘How do elderly individuals with chronic illnesses cope with the difficulties they encounter in their daily lives? With the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases, the impact of these health problems on the lives of the elderly population and their coping strategies in daily life have become an important research topic. The study focuses on the social, psychological, and physical needs of older adults, particularly in the Turkish context, aiming to reveal the transformations in their daily life practices and the challenges they face. By examining the daily life practices of older adults using the comprehensive perspective provided by the biopsychosocial model, the study aims to contribute to the identification of strategies to improve their health and quality of life. The study group for this qualitative research consists of 30 elderly individuals who have been diagnosed with a chronic disease and are currently living with at least one chronic disease. Participants are aged 65 and above. Participants were selected based on maximum diversity sampling, one of the purposive sampling techniques. The findings of the study clearly reveal that the difficulties in the health status, social interactions, and psychological state of elderly individuals are shaped not only by individual health problems but also by social, cultural, and systemic factors.
