Biography

Dr. Cagri Arisoy, a distinguished computer scientist and computer engineer, is currently making significant contributions to academia as an assistant professor at Yozgat Bozok University in Turkey. Born and raised in Turkey, Dr. Arisoy embarked on a remarkable educational journey that has shaped an impressive career in the fields of cybersecurity and human cognition.

Dr. Arisoy earned their bachelor's degree in computer engineering from Erciyes University in Kayseri, Turkiye, in 2012, laying the foundation for their future endeavors. Following this, Dr. Arisoy entered the professional sphere, working as a junior software engineer at EES, a private company in Ankara, Turkey, for approximately two years.

Driven by a passion for advanced studies and research, Dr. Arisoy was awarded the YLSY scholarship program, a prestigious initiative conducted by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of National Education. This program is designed to sponsor Turkish students for post-graduate studies abroad. Dr. Arisoy went through an elaborate and diligent examination process by the Ministry, earning the opportunity to pursue further education abroad. This led Dr. Arisoy to the United States, where they pursued a Master's degree in Computer Science at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Dr. Arisoy successfully completed their Master's program in April 2018, acquiring a solid foundation in computer science and engineering.

Undeterred by challenges, Dr. Arisoy set their sights on further academic pursuits, earning a doctoral degree at Texas A&M University (TAMU) in December 2023. During their doctoral studies, Dr. Arisoy worked closely with Professor Nitesh Saxena as a Graduate Research Assistant in the SPIES Lab for a notable period of five years. The focus of Dr. Arisoy's groundbreaking thesis lies in the realm of neurosecurity and cognitive security within the context of user-centered cybersecurity, exploring the integration of electroencephalogram (EEG) technology and eye tracking in the domain of human-computer interactions.

The abstract of Dr. Arisoy's dissertation underscores the evolving landscape of cybersecurity, emphasizing the critical role of human cognition in addressing vulnerabilities. Their research showcases a paradigm shift toward user-centric cybersecurity solutions, utilizing neurophysiological methods to delve into the neural underpinnings of human decision-making. The dissertation delves into the challenges of fake news detection, identification of deepfake videos, and the design of effective security warnings, shedding light on the intricacies of human decision-making processes and susceptibility to disinformation.
